Gauging the Desert Pearl

I knit up a storm the past five days, and for what? For what I thought was going to be a stole, but became an extremely long, I'm talking over 7 feet long, too wide to be a scarf, too thin to be anything else. Don't get me wrong, I friggin love this thing, too bad I'm short and look ridiculous with it on. Therefore, I am going to painstakingly pull it apart and start again. Perhaps this is what they mean by CHECK YOUR GAUGE!?....@%#*&@!!!!!
